Really excited to finally be visiting the New Grand Museum at Giza. Accompanied by my interpreter, a dear friend, we went to the gate only to be told booking had to be on line which I had heard nothing about when I made enquiries, and all places had been allocated for that day. I was flabbergasted. I thought for a second, pulled out my card, with a photo of me on and said to the chap, 'I cannot come back. This is the only time I can visit before returning to England. This is my card and you can see I have written a Trilogy about Tutankhamun's life.'
He took the card smiling, turned and talked to the chap to the side of him then turned back and said 'Fine,' giving my friend the tickets and she handed him the money.
We entered into the only open entrance. Directly in front of us was an enormous statute of Ramesses II from Memphis .
To the right of me was a sign with a rather naf photo of the young Pharaoh indicating where the interactive exhibition will be held; people were queueing up to the side of it.
Straight ahead workmen were busy completing that part of the structure furthest away in the middle distance. To the left was the Grand Staircase, dotted with large statutes of personalities from the 18th Dynasty. Further down to the right were the different restaurants, coffee and tea shops where we later treated ourselves to an Egyptian staple, Koshary which was really delicious.
